Dort Financial Credit Union has extended a helping hand to the community since its founding in 1951. We are honored to be a part of this community and the surrounding counties as well, through our philanthropy and volunteer efforts.
Dort Financial is grounded in the credit union philosophy of “people helping people” and building throughout the community. In 2021 alone, Dort Financial donated to, volunteered at, sponsored, or partnered with over 170 community organizations. From handing out promotional items at Flint City Bucks and Flint Firebirds games and sponsoring banners and scoreboards at local schools, to hosting blood drives and raising funds for Whaley Children’s Center through campaigns, you can count on Dort Financial Credit Union to make a lasting impact on all aspects of the community.
We are grateful to be a part of the communities surrounding our branch locations, and look forward to expanding our community involvement throughout the state of Michigan. Some of our current community partners include the YMCA of Greater Flint, Catholic Charities of Shiawassee and Genesee Counties, and Hurley Children’s Hospital.
Although 2020 did not allow us to safely venture into the community like we have previously done, the Credit Union was still actively giving back to charities and organizations. We joined efforts with various businesses and organizations throughout the year to give help to those who had necessary fundraisers and drives cancelled. This is why we strongly believe in people helping people.

Dort Financial Credit Union is honored to announce they have been nominated and selected as a winner for the 2018 Governor’s Service Awards in the Corporate Community Leader category. The Governor’s Service Awards are given annually by the Governor of the State of Michigan to individuals, organizations and businesses to acknowledge their commitment to serving their communities through volunteerism. “This year’s winners have inspiring stories. They have made a tremendous impact on the lives of others through their service,” Gov. Rick Snyder said. “I am extremely grateful for the contributions they have made for Michigan and am honored to recognize their incredible accomplishments.”
In 2017 alone, Dort Financial Credit Union donated to, volunteered at, and/or participated in nearly 100 events and charities in the community. This has led to countless hours of volunteer work by employees, 45 pints of blood donated, and over $19,000 raised personally from employees and donated to charities. Dort Financial Credit Union does not implement a required volunteer program. The time that employees of the organization put towards charities are all in kind nature. Nearly continuous staff involvement goes extremely far in bettering the communities we live, work, attend school, worship and volunteer in.
